With September in the air and cooler weather the fishing is still HOT, HOT, HOT! At 6.00 a.m. on September 27 over 30 sport fishing vessels left the Marinas Mazatlán and El Cid to spend a fabulous day on the smooth seas vying for the biggest Dorado.
Ricardo Ramírez landed the winning Dorado, weighing in at 48lbs. His buddies Bernardo Valades and Sergio Garcia Granados were about 26 miles off the beautiful shore of Mazatlán when they hooked up around 2 pm in the afternoon. Their vessel “Mi Buena Suerte” in Spanish translates to “My Good Luck.”
These guys walked away with the 100,000 peso prize, roughly US $7500.00.
Second place went to Ricardo Fuentes, Ramon Puerto and the crew of Sea Biscuit who reeled in a 45.5 lb fish.

After a good day fishing, a fine time was had by all at the Derby headquarters “Dock 7 Restaurant and Bar.” “Fresh Fish and Cold Beer”are the operative words here!
Juan Acereto, President of Sinaloa State Sports Fishing Association who along with CONAPESCA ( the Mexican equivalent of Fish and Game) organized the event and did a stellar job of making the Mazatlán 4th Annual Dorado Derby a complete success.
Thanks go to everyone who entered. Special mention should go to the owners and staff of “Dock7” for putting out fantastic food in a truly nautical atmosphere.
