Mexico and Egypt agreed to identify new areas of cooperation and promote mutual investment and commerce. They will also work to increase educational, cultural, technical and scientific collaboration.

They highlighted the importance of supporting initiatives that increase contacts between the public and private sectors of both countries. This will serve to expand mutual understanding and deepen bilateral economic relationships.

Mexico’s Foreign Relations Secretariat (SRE) said in a message that Mexico and Egypt established diplomatic relationships on March 31, 1958.

The head of the SRE, José Antonio Meade, held a meeting with the Assistant Minister for the Americas of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Egypt, Ambassador Mohammed Farid Monib. The ambassador is visiting Mexico to participate in the 7th Meeting of the Consultation Mechanism on Subjects of Mexico-Egypt Mutual Interest.

Farid Monib also held meetings with the Foreign Relations undersecretary, ambassador Carlos de Icaza, and with the undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean, Vanesa Rubio Márquez. He met with the executive director of the Mexican Agency of International Development Cooperation, Juan Manuel Valle Pereña.

The officials assessed the bilateral Mexico-Egypt links after more than 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic relationships and agreed on the need to strengthen the political and economic links between both countries.

They also exchanged points of view on the situation in the Middle East and in Latin America and stressed Egypt’s role as a mediator in the Arab-Israeli conflict.
