In an effort to encourage the use of electric cars, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) announced that it will install separate meters in the homes of the drivers of electric cars.

Enrique Ochoa Reza, The Director General of the CFE, said that the initiative is part of an agreement between the CFE and the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA).

Ochoa Reza said that in January of this year four charging stations were installed in the metropolitan area of México City. He noted that it is essential to expand this network of charging stations to give greater confidence to buyers that there are places where they can recharge their cars.

Eduardo Solis, the President of the AMIA, said that to install an electrical charger for an automobile in a house costs on average between 8000 and 10,000 pesos, which is included in the sale price of the car.
