Mexico and UK sign extensive joint declaration

Mexican Foreign Affairs Secretary José Antonio Meade Kuribreña and British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond signed an extensive joint declaration on the second day of President Enrique Peña Nieto’s state visit to the United Kingdom.

The secretaries divided the document into categories: political dialogue, economic dialogue and investment, culture and education, tourism, energy, defense and security, human rights, health, space, diplomatic and expert exchanges, global matters, climate change, post 2015 agenda and open government alliance.

They also ratified 14 agreements signed between Mexico and the UK. The witnesses were Prime Minister David Cameron and Peña Nieto.

The declaration recognizes the excellent bilateral relationship between the nations. It says the state visit is an important component in the development of bilateral and multilateral relationships. Both countries are encouraged to continue investigating the possibilities of further cooperation and friendship.

The declaration highlights the importance of High Level Economic Talks and the Working Group on Trade have on economic dialogues. Her Majesty’s Treasury and the Mexican Treasury and Public Finance Secretariat will share important information.
 
Mexico and the UK will promote trade and collaborate with international organizations, such as G20, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the World Trade Organization.

In energy matters, Mexico’s Energy Secretariat and the UK’s Department of Energy and Climate Change will sign a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on this sector.
