Treatment in Mexico her last option

nicola jonesFormer TV reporter Nicola Jones.

A Canadian woman is undergoing treatment in Mexico after a cancer center in Canada said there was nothing more they could do for her.
Nicola Jones, 41, of Hamilton, Ontario, began receiving treatment Tuesday at an unnamed Mexican clinic, where doctors have said her only option is high-risk surgery to remove a tumor. But first they need to build up her strengthThe tumor has continued to grow despite aggressive chemotherapy.
Jones also considered treatment at a hospital in Germany with a 97% success rate but because it provides outpatient services only, officials there said she would be better off in Mexico with 24-hour care. As well, the German clinic was going to cost about CAD $11,500 a week, and the Mexican facility is expected to cost half that.
“It is the only hospital that is able to treat me in my late-stage condition,” Jones told the Hamilton Spectator.
So far she has been impressed. “I’ve never seen this level of care in my life.”
Jones is a former CHCH Television weather reporter, and has a nine-year-old son. “I have a little boy I want to live for.”
She was transported to Mexico by air ambulance Monday at a cost of more than $30,000, which friends and family helped pay for. Jones says she has maxed out her credit cards and is selling her house to cover her medical costs.
