Canadian Company to Build Gas Pipeline for CFE

ATCO Industries Ltd. (ATCO) announced that on October 10 México’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) awarded the construction and operation of a pipeline near Tula, Hidalgo to ATCO to bring gas to power plants in the region.
Since the government’s approval of the energy reform and secondary laws, international companies are starting to make investment decisions in México, as did ATCO.
Jimmy Delano, Director General of ATCO in México, said “This is our first project in México and the gateway to the country.” He said the projected cost of the natural gas pipeline is $50 million and that under the agreement with the CFE the company would operate it for 25 years.
When asked if the pipeline would deliver natural gas to anyone other than the CFE, Delano said that for now the pipeline is for the transport and delivery of gas only to the CFE. He noted, however, that the pipeline’s capacity exceeds the CFE’s requirements.
Our first project is the transportation of natural gas for electricity generation. Entering the area of gas ??transmission will depend on the investment opportunities that arise. Delano added, “But as soon as the opportunities present themselves, we will be there.”
