The Fourth District court had refused to allow three gay couples to marry and they appealed to the Supreme Court.
The First Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) ruled as unconstitutional sections of the Family Code of Sinaloa, which limited marriage to a man and a woman.
Three couples who said they were gay had requested the Fourth District Court to rule that the Family Code of the State was unconstitutional in denying them the right to marry. The court refused to rule in their favor and they appealed to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court ruled that portions of articles 40 and 165 of the state’s Family Code, which states that marriage is restricted to a man and a woman are unconstitutional because by this statement same-sex couples are excluded.
