Robert Rennhack, Deputy Director of the Americas Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), said México is the only country in the world to carry out structural reforms without the pressure of an economic crisis.
The Deputy Director said it very difficult for a country to carry out a process of that size. Few countries manage to do what México did in the last year, with it being based on the will of the major political parties and the determination of the federal government.
Rennhack said that “México is unique to approve a package of reforms in important areas such as education, labor market, energy and antitrust.” He said “there are very few countries that have, and have done so without facing a crisis (economic).” In his remarks Rennhack referred to the measures adopted under Energy Reform, under which the private sector can invest, which will, he added, increase investment in this sector in 2015 or 2016.
