Experts say Mexico is at the height of growth

THE NEWS
The Mexican tourism sector is at the height of its growth after an out of control crisis five years ago, assured Adam Brownstein, vice president for Latin America of the hotel search engine, Buteeq.
In the press conference presenting the study, “How to Find Traveller Hotels in Mexico,” Brownstein highlighted that hotel chains and independents are achieving better economic results, specifically shown by their increase in rates.
He also claimed, that in terms of tourism, Mexico has a high level international; the proof being that of the 50 million tourists that Latin America receives each year, between 15 and 18 million come to Mexico, looking for sun and beaches.
According to the study presented, as of July 2014, there have been 450 million internet searches for 60 specific hotels, which Brownstein believes emphasizes the increase in use of smartphones and tablets to make hotel reservations.
He added that Spanish is still the preferred search language for hotels in Mexico, accounting for 65.07 percent of all the searches, followed by English with 32.23 percent, and, surprisingly, Portuguese at 0.58 percent, most likely due the Brazilians’ preference for the Riviera Maya.
Another fact mentioned in the study was that the local tourism guides, usually published by the local governments, represented 38 percent of the search engines used by tourists to reserve hotels.
On this note, Brownstein recommended that hotels of all sizes, but especially the small ones, try to be included in these types of search engines, to improve their results.
He also noted that the most important thing for internet users reserving a hotel is not the hotel’s homepage, but the photographs of the place and the rooms, as those first impressions are generally the prime indicator when choosing a hotel.
