Electrical Rates Expected to Drop in Two Years

Enrique Ochoa Reza, Director General of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), said that Mexicans should see the benefits of the Energy Reform within the next two years.
The Director General, who met privately with members of the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex), said, “Since the adoption of the Energy Reform and the change in the construction of the energy sector infrastructure, we will be able to replace the fuel oil with natural gas and we expect to see concrete benefits within two years.”
Enrique Ochoa said that one of the objectives of the Energy Reform was the reduction of the costs associated with the generation of electricity, which can be achieved by replacing fuel oil with gas, which is four times more expensive than natural gas; and secondly, investing to improve the efficiency in both the distribution and transmission networks in México.
Juan Pablo Castanon Castanon, President of Coparmex, said there was the possibility of using the public-private partnerships to improve the efficiency in generating electricity throughout the country.
