Secretary of Foreign Relations José Antonio Meade and his British counterpart William Hague have signed a declaration calling for festivities in 2015 celebrating each other’s culture in their respective countries.
Known as the “Year of Mexico in the U.K.” and the “Year of the United Kingdom in Mexico,” the celebration will feature a visit by Prince Charles to Mexico in November.
“The Prince’s visit will be an opportunity to discuss bilateral relations regarding the issues of climate change, urban planning and rural development,” Meade said, adding that the visit would be reciprocated.
A visit from President Enrique Peña Nieto to the U.K. is under consideration, said Meade, especially with the upcoming Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict, the largest gathering ever brought on the subject, which will be held in London.
“Relations between Mexico and England have always been very good, and we share the same outlook on many issues,” Meade said.
During the “Year of Mexico in the U.K.,” various events will be held in celebration of Mexico’s diverse cultural heritage, rich history, and traditions, while also promoting it as a destination for trade, investment, and tourism.
“We are still in the process of planning the festivities, but they will include everything from expositions on cuisine, architecture, history, art, and more,” Meade said.
