Price of Limes, Avocados Begin to Drop

Local housewives shopping at the downtown Centro market were happy to notice the high prices of limes and avocados were beginning to drop.
Yesterday, vendors at the Mercado were selling avocado seconds (with slight bruises) at 30 pesos per kilo and primer avocados at 44.80 pesos per kilo. Said one housewife, the avocado seconds do not look as good on the outside but taste just the same as the more expensive premier fruit.
She was also pleased to buy limes at eight pesos a kilo compared to 49 pesos just ten days ago, telling reporters at that price they are practically “giving them away.”
While avocado and lime prices have come down, the cost of tomatoes has doubled from three to 6.5 pesos a kilo and up. The reason for the jump, explained one vendor, was the unseasonable heat in Sinaloa which has hastened the ripening process.
