The country aims to be safer and increase quality

“Mexico ranks among the 10 most attractive countries for foreign investment,” Tourism Secretary Claudia Ruiz Massieu said on Tuesday.
Representing President Enrique Peña Nieto at the 2014 Luxury Business Summit, which for the first time in a decade Mexico was chosen to host. “The country is ready for international investments in all sectors, especially tourism,” said Ruiz Massieu.
At the summit, senior luxury executives, industry leaders, corporate decision makers, and financiers from around the world convened in order to identify potential markets.
According to 2013 statistics from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Mexico is one of the seven most attractive countries for investment in the world.
Additionally, Mexico ranks ninth among the 25 most attractive countries for international investment, according to the global consulting firm AT Kearney.
Ruiz attributed Mexico’s growth to recent infrastructural reforms aimed at making the economy more competitive.
Regarding the tourism industry in general, Ruiz said that the main objectives are to continue increasing the quality of products and services, as well as to make the country safer for travelers.
“Promoting productivity will in turn create jobs and increase the population’s disposable income, further stimulating economic growth,” she said.
She noted that specifically in the luxury tourism industry, Mexico has a wide range of accommodations and services, as well as a level of hospitality that is difficult to match in other countries.
“The natural beauty of Mexico coupled with its high quality hotels, restaurants, and guest services present many dynamic investment opportunities,” she added.
Last year, the tourism industry in Mexico reached unprecedented figures, receiving 24 million international visitors, or 2.6 percent more than tourists received in 2011, according to World Bank figures.
Within upcoming years, Mexico’s tourist industry is expected to take on increased economic importance in the international arena as more tourists come in and new infrastructure is built.
Future projects include the construction of high speed railways to link larger destinations with smaller ones.
