Secretary General of Government for the state of Sinaloa, Gerardo Vargas Landeros, said the government is ready for the 2014 hurricane season and has called upon 18 of the state’s municipalities to be alert.
He noted that the hurricane season officially began on May 15 in the Mexican Pacific and June 1 in the Atlantic. Both will end on November 30. Current predictions are that there will be 14 named cyclones in the Mexican Pacific, seven of which could reach hurricane strength.
The Director of Civil Protection for the state, Ismael Czeca Landeros, said there is close coordination between the three levels of government and the various aid groups, all of whom have responded effectively and timely when it is required.
The Director said the state has in place 259 temporary shelters with a capacity of 95,772 people. Coordination plans have already been made with Road and Transport authorities in order to expedite the evacuation of people in danger.
