Bars, Restaurants Given Third Reprieve to Pay License Renewals

This was the third extension in the four months the present administration has been in office.
This was the third extension in the four months the present administration has been in office.
In an extraordinary Council meeting held yesterday, municipal councilors approved the third extension this year of the deadline for bars and restaurants to renew their annual liquor licenses.
The deadline date of May 1 has now been extended to May 15.
To date, of the 1,250 businesses paying annual liquor permits only 214 have complied with their obligation, or 17 percent.
While council members unanimously voted in favour of the extension solicited by the local National Council of Restaurants and Food Industry, several pointed out the extension does not help the municipality´s bottom line.
PRI representative Guillermo Quintana Pucheta said this was the third extension in the four months the present administration has been in office and it would be the last, while PRD representative Jorge Rodríguez Pasos said those businesses that have not paid by May 15 should be assessed the appropriate monetary fines.
Official Mayor Salvador Reynosa Garzón told reporters that at the same date in 2013 only 67 owners had renewed their permits and that although only 17 percent had done so this year, those payments represented 3,250,000 pesos for the municipal coffers.
