Conforming to the national tendency, Mazatlán’s airport continues to recuperate passenger traffic bypassing other beach resorts such as Acapulco, but is still behind the strong competitors of Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos.

In February this year, 66,183 passengers arrived at the Rafael Buelna Airport, a 10.1 percent increase over the same time last year.

According to Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte OMA, operator of the airport, national passengers increased 9.6 percent while international arrivals increased 10.5 percent.

The OMA report stated 33,811 foreigners arrived here, as compared to 7,728 in Acapulco.

The most important increase in arrivals was registered in Zihuatenejo due to flights from Toronto, Minneapolis and Calgary, while Mazatlán benefited mainly from flights from Minneapolis.

However, Mazatlán continues to lag behind Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta which recorded 230,000 and 253,000 foreign passengers respectively in January this year.
