Ricardo Michel Luna, President of the Ship Owners Union,
said that over the past few days around 200 shrimp boats have returned
to port so the crews can join their families in celebrating the New
Year.
The President said about 85% of the 500 ship fleet is now in port.
After the celebration this week, some, but not all, of
the shrimp fleet will return to sea for their last trip of the shrimp
season.
Michel Luna said that although the price of shrimp is
up, the catch is down and with the expense of another trip some captains
have not yet decided whether they will return for a final trip. On the
last trips of the season the catch runs between 1 and 2 tons of shrimp.
