Italian prime minister in Mexico to seek closer ties

Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta arrived in Mexico Sunday for a three-day visit aimed at drumming up trade and bolstering cooperation.

The visit "is aimed at deepening the strategic nature of our bilateral ties," said a statement from the Mexican foreign ministry.

Letta will meet with President Enrique Pena Nieto to sign a number of agreements, it added.
Bilateral trade between the two countries hit $6.8 billion in 2012.
