The Executive Director of Greenpeace México, Femke Bartels, said that its flagship “Rainbow Warrior” will sail the waters of México in order to show the public the possibility of a sustainable future.

Femke Bartels said the Rainbow Warrior would sail the Pacific coast of México from January 7th through the 19th, calling on Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta, and Acapulco. It will then move to the eastern coast and dock at Cozumel, Quintana Roo, and Veracruz.

The Rainbow Warrior is scheduled to dock in Mazatlán on January 7th.

A Greenpeace spokesperson said the third Rainbow Warrior, which entered operation in October 2011, is better equipped to carry on the organization’s purposes than any Greenpeace ship before her. “We wanted the third Rainbow Warrior to be as environmentally-friendly as possible for a ship of its type and Greenpeace has worked with some excellent engineers to make it happen,” the spokesperson said.

The ship sails primarily under wind power. Its 55m-high A-Frame mast system can carry far more sail than a conventional mast of the same size. This is the first time this design has been installed on a vessel of the Rainbow Warrior’s size.
