Gov. Jorge Herrera Caldera said on Friday that, in 2014, his
administration will purchase new mobile breast cancer and cervical
cancer detection units in order to strengthen women’s healthcare.
Herrera Caldera said that these mobile cancer detection units will
cost a total of 5.8 million pesos ($443,000) and will visit each
municipality in the state, with the goal of promoting a culture of
prevention and the early detection of these types of cancer.
With the goal of reducing the number of mothers who die during
childbirth, the state government will also purchase three
latest-generation ultrasound machines, to be installed in hospitals, as
well as one ambulance, and will establish a budget for the rental of
airplanes for obstetrical emergencies in rural areas, a government press
release said.
State Health Secretary Eduardo Díaz Juárez said that “these actions
were made with the unconditional support of Tere Álvarez del Castillo de
Herrera, president of the State Family Development Agency (DIF), who
has promoted (the purchase) of this type of equipment.”
Díaz thanked the workers of the State Health Secretariat for their
hard work to reduce the number of mothers who die during childbirth.
