Bus companies have been in discussion with authorities for a petroleum subsidy.

Juan Zataráin Velarde, President of the Eagles Transportation of the Pacific, said the Alliance is planning to approach the state in an attempt to have fares for city buses increased.
He said it was impossible to keep providing bus service at the present rate with the increase in the price of diesel, which went into effect on January 1st, and providing bus service to students at half fare.

He noted that bus companies have been in discussion with authorities for a petroleum subsidy. He added that nothing has come of those discussions so far.

The President said, “We expected the increase (in the price of diesel) of 11 centavos today (Saturday), as it will occurr on the first Saturday of each month, but the increase was 24 centavos.”

Zataráin said the Alliance has cut bus service on some non-profitable routes as much as 50 percent. that There were not a sufficient number of passengers on bus routes in Infonavit Playas, Tec Milenio and Real Pacific to maintain current service, he said.
