In anticipation of projected increased passenger travel at Mazatlán´s
General Rafael Buelna airport, work began yesterday on a 90 million
peso update that will create 650 jobs.
Porfirio González Álvarez, director general of Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte (OMA), announced at the inauguration of the project that this remodeling stage forms part of the 250 million pesos that the concessionaire has programmed to apply to the Mazatlán terminal between 2011 and 2015.
He told those present that they cannot allow Mazatlán to live in the past. The new building will be a vanguard design giving the city a world class airport.
As part of the overall Master Development Plan, eight additions and changes were begun yesterday:

- larger waiting room
- larger registration and documentation area
- reconfiguration of waiting room for national flights
- construction of additional commercial and services areas
- more washrooms
- relocation of administration offices
