Fernando Izquierdo Canizález, president of the Mercado’s
tenants’ union, Martin Heredia Lizárraga, federal deputy from Sinaloa,
and architect Égar Urban Martínez spoke at Mazatlán’s popular Pino
Suárez Mercado telling the tenants and visitors that the Mercado would
be remodeled next year.
Izquierdo Canizález praised the job that Deputy Heredia
Lizárraga had done in representing the interest of Mazatlán’s landmark
with the federal government. The Deputy reminded the attendees that one
of his campaign promises had been to obtain funds for remodeling the
Mercado. He said since being a federal deputy he has been able to
fulfill his promise.
He told the assembled crowd that next year the federal
government will allocate 80 million pesos ($6.2 million) to rescue the
aging facility.
Égar Urban Martínez thanked everyone for their
confidence in him in choosing him to be the architect to oversee the
Mercado’s makeover. He noted that a remodel and upgraded Mercado will
ensure that it will be a tourist attraction for the city, since few
buildings with the Mercado’s architecture still exist in the country.
