After two years of absence from Mazatlán’s port, a cargo ship is
docked waiting for 20,500 tons of steel and rods to be loaded onto it.
Eduardo Barrón Estrada, head of the Port Workers Union, said this new business for the port will generate 240 jobs for the next 5 to 6 days. He added that another shipment of steel for export is expected in the near future. The next ship for export is expected to be 12,000 tons and additional shipments are expected in the near future.
Eduardo Barrón Estrada said that in the past these shipments have been exported from Manzanillo. Hopefully, the exporter, located in Monterrey is regaining confidence in Mazatlán, he added.
These exports are headed for South American and Asia, primarily China.
