Peña Nieto to inaugurate new highway

Work on the Durango-Mazatlán Superhighway has been completed and the highway is ready to be used, Durango Gov. Jorge Herrera Caldera and Communications and Transportation Undersecretary Raúl Murrieta Cummings said on Sunday during their inspection of the project’s progress.

The highway is scheduled to be opened on Thursday, following an inauguration ceremony featuring President Enrique Peña Nieto at the Coscomate toll both, located high in the Sierra Madre Occidental, near where the highway crosses the state border between Durango and Sinaloa. According to Herrera Caldera, this highway forms an integral part of the Northern Economic Corridor development project.

The highway’s planners say that it will reduce travel time between Durango and Mazatlán from six to two and a half hours.
