MEXICO CITY – The Mexican government has initiated contacts with Bolivia in an effort to expand the existing Economic Complementation Agreement (ACE), the Foreign Relations Secretariat said.

“Deputy Secretary Vanessa Rubio Marquez carried out a working visit to Bolivia” to discuss the ACE, the secretariat said in a statement.

Rubio Marquez’s visit, which ended on Saturday, was aimed at “crafting a joint bilateral agenda that includes expansion of the ACE, the joint promotion of investment in both countries” and studying the possible “participation of Mexican businesses in auctions of infrastructure contracts in that nation,” the secretariat said.

Mexico also wants to expand “cooperation in the energy, agriculture and education areas,” and to address “matters related to the large Mexican Mennonite community living in Bolivia,” the secretariat said.

The Mexican government expects Bolivian Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca to visit Mexico in 2014 for the Binational Commission meeting, the secretariat said.

Rubio Marquez met with Bolivian Foreign Ministry and Government Ministry officials during her visit, the secretariat said.
