Francisco Cordova Celaya, Secretary of Tourism of Sinaloa, announced that
Mazatlán will be getting new aircraft landings at its General Rafael Buelna
International Airport.
Beginning on Thursday, June 6th, the Mexican airline Volaris will initiate a flight between Mazatlán and México City. The carrier will have a sitting capacity of 176. Airline officials said Mazatlán’s name and logo will be painted on the aircraft.
In the month following the Mexican airline Interjet will add the city of Mazatlán to its routing map. Beginning on a date to be announced, Interjet will begin serving Mazatlán in July with an initial flight between México City and Mazatlán. The aircraft will have a 93 passenger seats.
Cordova Celaya also announced that the charter air carrier Sun Country, based in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul area, will begin charterfl ights from Minneapolis to Mazatlán starting
on December 13th of this year and will continue the weekly flights
until April 6th of 2014. The total number of seats arriving on these
charter flights will
be 4,774. The Secretary of Tourism noted that with the Sun Country flights
Mazatlán will have recovered 22% of the international airline seats it has
lost.
